We are part of Girlguiding, the leading charity for girls and young women in the UK.
In Girlguiding, areas are divided into districts – and we are Blackamoor District. We run guiding units in Dore, Sheffield, right on the edge of the Peak District.
We are a very active district with 1 Rainbow unit, 3 Brownie units and 2 Guide units. We run fun activities, provide outdoor adventures and opportunities for new experiences and friendships. We encourage girls to make their own decisions and gain confidence through our programmes.
The leaders who run the units are all volunteers and we always welcome new people! Alongside the adult Leaders, there are members of Senior Section working towards their Young Leadership Qualification at each unit.
As part of Girlguiding, our programmes follow the Five Essentials.
- Working together in small groups.
- Encouraging the girls to govern themselves and to make their own decisions.
- A balanced and varied programme.
- Care for the individual.
- A commitment to a common standard.
We are lucky to be so close to the Outdoor Activities Centre at Whiteley Woods, which offers many adventurous activities.
